Jerry Carroll of Samson, AL passed away at his residence on June 17, 2024 after a long battle with COPD. He was 75 years old. Jerry was born on August 31, 1948 in Holmes County, FL to Monroe Carroll and Fannie Bell Smith Carroll.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, his brothers James, Alvis, Earl, and Sam, sisters Nita, Ella Bell. He is survived by his three daughters, Rachael Carroll, Renee Allen (Alvin), and Amanda Jarrett (Jonathan), one grandson Ryan Wood (Kara), two granddaughters, Savannah Logan (Christian), and Josie Adams, one great-grand daughter River Wood, all of Samson, one sister Jean Harrison of Darlington, FL, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a hardworking pulpwooder in the 1970s and often reminisced how he cut and loaded numerous cords of wood in one day. He was also a passionate hog hunter in his younger years and enjoyed hunting with his dogs along the rivers in Mississippi. Jerry enjoyed fishing and often bragged about the massive channel catfish he caught out of the Pea River.

He loved seeing his grandkids and especially doted on his great-grand daughter, River. In his final years, he enjoyed talking to people and helping others in need, even when he didn’t have much to give.

Jerry’s wish, that he expressed to everyone he met, was that they would abstain from smoking in order to spare themselves the agony caused by COPD.

He will be laid to final rest on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Smith family cemetery (The Garden) on Hwy 2 in the Darlington community.
