Janet Marie Benoit Rodriguez, born on September 30, 1961, in San Francisco, CA, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, in Opelousas, LA. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her warm spirit and generous heart.
Janet was married to her high school sweetheart, Christopher Rodriguez, and together they raised a loving family. She is survived by her children: Travis Rodriguez and his wife Rebekah, Isaac Rodriguez and his wife Codi, Corrie van Eyk and her husband Greg, and Helena Lowery and her husband Chuck. Janet was especially proud of her 17 grandchildren, often saying she loved to hold them all and shower them with affection.
A 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo, Janet was passionate about martial arts and dedicated her time to teaching young students in her community. Her love for language also flourished as she spoke fluent Cajun French, embodying the rich cultural heritage of her roots. Known for her hospitality and hugs, Janet delighted family and friends with her famous cinnamon rolls and mouthwatering BBQ, often hosting gatherings where laughter and joy thrived.
Her faith played an integral role in her life; she served diligently in her church, Hope Presbyterian, and was a beloved figure in the community through her involvement in Vacation Bible School and the local Hope for Opelousas. A true woman of God, Janet shared her beliefs in Jesus Christ with everyone around her and sang of His goodness even during challenging times.
Janet embraced life with open arms. She loved to travel, go to church, read, and enjoy the simple pleasure of sitting on her front porch, sipping coffee while watching the rain fall. Her favorite songs filled her home—she cherished Cajun music, Fernando Ortega, and traditional hymns. A talented trumpet player, she performed in her high school band and in the church band, bringing joy to many.
Janet’s essence shone through her interactions; she would laugh, cry, pray, and sing with those she loved. A true embodiment of love and joy, anyone who met her felt the warmth she radiated. With her bright spirit and loving nature, Janet will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
