Obituary

James Murray, known lovingly as "Fat Boy," passed away on January 2, 2024, at the age of 70. He was born on July 24, 1953, in South Philadelphia to Elizabeth and Thomas Murray. James was 1 out of 13 children, The loving brother of Johnny, Harry, Betty-Anne, Roseann,Christine, Michelle and the late Joseph, Tommy, Bobby, Edna-Mae, and Anna.


James had a passion for buying and fixing cars, and he enjoyed watching cartoons during his free time. He had a particular fondness for chee-chees, cheeseburgers, cookies, and peanut butter tasty-kakes. Listening to old school music was his favorite pastime.

Known for his outgoing and funny personality, James always had a way of making people smile. He took pride in being a mechanic and had a motto to "roll up like a donut and roll out." However, his proudest accomplishment was taking care of his wife, Debbie who he shared 47 years with, and their children, Tracy, Jimmy, Robert, and the late Walt, Steven, and Shawn. James was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, adored by his 11 grandchildren Dara, Robert, Ashlea, Jimmy, Tj, Michaelena, Keith, Hailey, Carlie, Emily, and Trinity and his two great-grandchildren Harper and Sy'mir. He loved them all immensely.

In his leisure time, you would often find James in his favorite spot, his couch, enjoying TV shows like Blue Bloods, Hawaii 5-0, Law & Order, the news, Monday Night Raw, and Friday Night Smackdown. Wrestling was his favorite sport, and he never missed a match.

James will be remembered for his generosity and love for the neighborhood kids. He treated them as if they were his own, always ensuring their happiness above all else. His impact on the lives of others will never be forgotten.

A viewing and funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 9:30am at St. Gabriel's Parish, located at 2917 Dickinson St, Philadelphia, PA 19146. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a gofundme page in James Murray's honor.

James Murray, "Fat Boy," will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
