James W. Dodson, beloved father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the Martinsville community, passed away on July 10, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born on September 6, 1940, to the late James W Dodson and the late Maggie Dodson in Martinsville, VA, the place he called home throughout his life.

James had an impressive educational background, graduating from George Washington Carver High School in 1959. He further pursued his studies at Virginia State University, where he earned an associate's degree in electrical technology. He retired from Fieldcrest Mills.

As a father, James leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He was blessed with four children Jonathan Dodson (preceded him in death), Selena (Glen) Parker, Angela Dodson Bennett, and Valorie Lightfoot. His presence will also be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren: Andre Bennett, Arcadia Cohen, Ashleigh Parker, James Shepherd II, Morgan Renae Hairston, Sierra Michelle Lightfoot, Mary Latrice Ferguson, and Serenity Naveah Miller.

Known for his pertinacity and unwavering positivity, James was admired by all who knew him. He found immense joy in spending time with his family, and his presence brightened the lives of those around him. He loved and defended his children and stood as an example of a good father.

James Dodson's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his loved ones and the community he touched. His memory will be forever treasured, and his legacy will continue to inspire.
