Obituario

James Allen Moffett, born on November 2, 1962, in Hattiesburg, MS, passed away on October 26, 2024, in Maxie, MS. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, known for his larger-than-life personality and unwavering dedication to his family.

James dedicated 28 years of service to the Mississippi Army National Guard, proudly upholding the values of hard work and commitment. He served as the supervisor of the Camp Shelby Recycle Center, a role that reflected his passion for community contribution and sustainability.

In his free time, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his favorite pastime, scraping metal, often at his cherished spot, Parker's Scrap Metal. He was known to relish anything slathered in mayonnaise or a classic BLT. An avid supporter of the Forrest County Aggies, he loved all things related to his local community.

James is survived by his loving wife, Anita Moffett; his son, Kenneth (Brittany) Moffett of McComb; and his daughters, Niki (Mike) Cooley of Brooklyn, Neelie (Ricky) Maxwell of Maxie, and Lexie and Mollie of Maxie. His grandchildren, McKade Cooley, Hunter and Fisher Maxwell, and Claire Cooley, were his pride and joy, and he often referred to them as his greatest accomplishments.

He is also survived by his brothers, Richard (Brenda) Moffett of Carnes, Joseph (Cindy) Moffett of Brooklyn, and Jerry (Lorrie) Gibson of Wiggins; his aunt, LaVern Palmer of Maxie; and special friends, Paul (Renee) Cook of Maxie. He was preceded in death by his parents, James (Bunk) and Bobbie Moffett, as well as his grandparents, Gip and Doris Gibson, and Nevels and Cornelia Moffett.

James was affectionately known by his nicknames Butterbean and Possum. His infectious spirit, hard work ethic, and love for his family made him one of a kind—there will never be another like him. He often said, “I love you three!” as a testament to the deep affection he had for those close to him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
