Obituary

Isolda Heredia de Salvatierra passed away on April 27, 2025, in Madrid, Spain, at the age of 85.

Born on May 26, 1939, in San Felipe, Yaracuy, Venezuela, Isolda was a prominent politician and economist whose life was marked by her steadfast dedication to public service and the advancement of women's rights. From 1980 to 1982, she served as Venezuela's delegate to the Inter-American Commission of Women, where she worked to improve the status of women throughout the Americas. In 1988, she was elected to Venezuela’s National Congress as a representative for the state of Monagas under the Copei party. During her tenure, she contributed meaningfully to the Bicameral Commission on Women's Rights, helping shape legislation that promoted gender equality and protection.

At the time of her passing, Isolda remained active in her lifelong cause as coordinator of the Venezuelan Observatory of Women's Rights. Her enduring commitment to justice and civic engagement left a lasting impact on national and regional policy.

Isolda was the beloved wife of Rafael Salvatierra (Rafucho) and a devoted mother to Ysolda Elena and her husband Santiago; Ana María; Beatriz Eugenia and her husband Pedro; Adriana Alejandra and her husband Hernán; and Rafael Ignacio and his wife Tina. She cherished her grandchildren—Adriana, Luis, Gabriela, Tomás, Luzmary, Luz, Lua, Sofía, Rafa Jr., Hernán Andrés, Simón, Mariana, Ana Paula, and Sebastián—and found great joy in her great-grandchildren: Fidel Ignacio, Salvador Ignacio, and Samira.

She is also remembered with affection by her brother Manuel C., and Mati.

Isolda will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for the warmth she shared with those around her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
