Obituary

Hury Lee Smith, affectionately known as Hue-Do and Maine, passed away on October 15, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on August 3, 1950, in Birmingham, Alabama to Emma Mae and Russell Lee Smith. Hury spent his final years in Southfield, Michigan, surrounded by the love of his family.

Hury was a man of many talents and interests. From a young age, he worked as a truck driver at star hickey, later honing his skills as a handyman. His love for music was evident in his favorite hobbies, which included playing the piano, singing, dancing, and playing cards. He found great joy in the sounds of Frankie Beverly & MAZE, often bringing friends and family together through the power of music.

A devoted family man, Hury cherished his wife, Barbara, whom he met in 1988. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter and warmth. He is survived by his four sons, Hury Smith, Eric Smith (Leila), Hurie Johnson (Tawanna), and Rodney Simpson, along with three daughters, Cherry Sparks, Rogena Williams (Ibim), and Porsha Smith. Hury's legacy continues through his 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

Hury was known for his selflessness, always taking the time to do the little things for others. His infectious laughter and captivating stories left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was a member of Christian Inn MBC, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community.

Hury is also survived by his beloved sisters, Essie Smith, Thelma Twitty, and Myra Joe Wynn, who will forever hold him in their hearts. His spirit will live on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and love.
