Minnie Donnetta Alexander
This is my story:
Harry James Alexander Jr., 59, of West Memphis, Arkansas, passed away on December 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after bravely facing numerous health challenges.
I, Harry J Alexander Jr., was born one warm Thursday afternoon on April 6, 1965 to Birdia Alexander Jenkins and Harry James Alexander Sr. in the beautiful city of Earle, AR. I was the first born child of my family, so I have tried to be an example to all of my siblings. In my 10th grade year of High School, I moved to the Windy City, Chicago, IL. It was there that I met my “Sweetie” Minnie D. Fox during a printing class in 1981 at Austin High School where I graduated.
After I met Minnie, my life changed forever. We became inseparable from the moment she said “yes” to my marriage proposal. We were married at the young age of 18 & 19. Some said our love would not stand the test of time, but our love has endured for over 41 years. During our marriage, I would say, “Minnie is my sweetie and I was her baby! Together our love produced 5 sweet babies!”
My name sake and my oldest, Harry James III, Anthony, Annetta, Annita, and Andrew. The 5 sweet babies then produced a host of “sugar babies” (grandchildren) and they have been the joy of my life.
I received Christ at an early age, but later in the 90’s my relationship with Christ deepened and I was called into ministry under the Late Superintendent John Bennett at the Earle Church of God in Christ. I was then led to attend and assist at Shereville Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Dr. Freddie Lee. While on vacation in Las Vegas, God began to speak and told me that it was time to start my own ministry. Out of obedience to God’s instructions, I established Divine Temple Church of God in Christ in October of 2002 in the Wynne District.
We had two different locations in West Memphis before buying a church in Parkin, AR in the summer of 2008 after a message entitled “What Money Can’t Buy”. After 10 years along with going through the pandemic God kept our ministry covered by his Grace. With much prayer and supplication God opened a door in January 2024, he relocated me to our current location at 208 South 8th Street in West Memphis, AR where I faithfully served as Pastor until I gained my wings along with serving the Wynne District as Administrative Assistant to Superintendent Alvin Coleman, Sr. whom I truly honored until my last breath.
I have always believed in working to provide for my family because I felt it was my responsibility above all. I worked at Lynn’s Electric in Chicago, IL and Ray Willington in Memphis, TN as a diesel mechanic. When I later relocated back to Earle, I was employed at General Trucks as a mechanic. In 1998, I was hired at Memphis Area Transit Authority as a diesel mechanic, but then promoted to General Foreman where I was currently employed when I made my transition. Working for Mata brought me great joy and was how I supported my sweetie and my sweet babies.
On Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 1:30pm I heard the voice of God telling me that I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, that I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7)
I have left a cloud of witnesses who cherish my memory:
