Obituary

Gregory Neil Whitson

Gregory Neil Whitson, born on February 12, 1957, in Kirkland, Washington, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, in Woodburn, Oregon, just shy of his 68th birthday. Greg was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, whose warm spirit and sense of humor touched the lives of many.

Greg was born to Wanda (Coffee) and Leslie "Pete" Whitson and was the middle son, cherished by his brothers, Rick and Gary.

A graduate of the class of 1975 from Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie Washington, Greg spent his life pursuing his passions and sharing them with those he loved. Greg lived a simple life and truly appreciated the little things. Given some duct tape and cardboard, he could fix anything. He relished spending time with his family, loved cheering on his grandchildren at their various sports activities, even from afar. His love for sports extended to his own interests, as he enjoyed watching and playing tennis (he had a mean backhand), football (he never understood why they didnt give Marshawn the ball), basketball (bring back his Sonics), softball (Go Ava and Emmy his favorite players), Soccer (James breaking ankles), and seeing Addy with her horses.

As a talented chef, Greg had a knack for creating incredible meals, particularly his famed sauces, and he cherished passing down family recipes. His passion for cooking was shared with his son-in-law and grandson James and was a source of great pride. His culinary talents brought friends and family together, creating lasting memories.

Nature was a source of serenity for Greg. He loved his childhood home of North Bend and frequently visited the Mount Si nature area and Snoqualmie Falls throughout his life. He also found peace along the coastal areas of Neah Bay, Mukilteo Beach, Ocean Shores and various beaches throughout the San Juan Islands, where he enjoyed listening to stories from his grandchildren or spinning tales of his own.

Greg was a Christian and found great comfort and joy in reading his Bible. His faith was an important part of his life.

Gregory is survived by his mother Wanda, brothers Rick and Gary, step mother Nancy, ex-wife Ellen, stepchildren Daniel and Trisha, and daughter Devon. He is also survived by his combined nine grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love.

He had a zest for life that was evident in everything he did, and he will be remembered fondly by those who had the privilege of knowing him, he will be dearly missed.
