Obituary

Gregory Hooks (65), also known as "Hooks", departed to his eternal resting place on December 11, 2023. He was born on February 20, 1958, to Steve and Eva Hooks Si (deceased). He was born in Sandersville, GA as the seventh of fourteen children. His siblings are as follows: Steve Hooks Jr (spouse:

Sallie Hooks; both deceased), Marguerite Greer (spouse:

Tommy Greer; both deceased), Willie Eva Hooks, Velmon Hooks (deceased), George Hooks Si (deceased), Anna Marie Jordan (spouse: Melvin Jordan), Barbara Jean Hooks, Shirley Hooks, Deja Owens, Howard Hooks, Elizabeth Ann Pace (spouse: Eddie Pace; both deceased), Danny Hooks Sr (Spouse: Tasha Hooks), Dean Hooks (deceased), Deanna Hooks.

As a child, between joyous family time, he would often devote his time to helping his family by picking crops at local farms.

The crop would vary per season, depending on the farm that needed help. At the age of 18, he left home in pursuit of opportunity. He soon joined the army, where he met his first wife, Carolyn Van Cole (formerly Carolyn Hooks, deceased).

They eventually settled in St. Louis, MO, which will serve as his final resting place. Together, they had three children, Gregory

(37), Devin (34) and Renae (32) Hooks. After 15 years of marriage, Gregory and Carolyn decided to dissolve their union, at which point he joined Glenda Ewing (deceased) in matrimony. Gregory and Glenda remained married for several years but did not have children.

If we had to choose adjectives to describe Gregory, they would be hard-working, uncomplicated, and dedicated. He spent most of his career with US Foods, as a truck driver, often working 60-hour weeks to help his work family. His work schedule often dumbfounded his loved ones, but the truth is, he simply had it in his heart to help. He enjoyed the simple things in life- Mountain Dew, candy, and college football (Go Georgia!). He never wavered from his responsibilities by contributing to them in the best way he knew how, sometimes anonymously.

He is survived by his children, Gregory, Devin and Renae; grandchildren, Immanuel, London, Amir, Zuriana and Zy'niah; and siblings Willie Eva, Anna Marie, Barbara Jean, Shirly, Howard, Danny, Deja and Deanna

He will be sorely missed.

Psalm 73:26- "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."
