Gerald grew up in Sandy Lake PA. From about age 11, he assisted his uncle Wilbur on his dairy farm. Wilbur lived next door. He graduated high school in Sandy Lake and promptly enlisted in the Air Force. The Air Force took Gerald to many places throughout his 22 years. An early assignment too him to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he met Betty Jean Strickland. They married and began having their family of six sons. Gerald was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He served 22 years in the Air Force.
