Georgianna's favorite hobbies

Georgianna was a wonderful painter, covering mixed mediums of watercolors, acrylics and oils on canvas. Her art themes were nature and Christian art. Georgianna also loved music, specifically, gospel and church hymns. Her favorite songs were "In the morning, when I rise" and "His Eye is on the Sparrow." Georgianna was raised catholic by her stepparents and became a 7th Day Adventist, singing in their choir in her later years. Georgianna loved to walk, hike and participate with camp organizations. An African American, she also embraced her quarter native American heritage, as well by attending Pow Wow events in western mass.

Georgianna's profession(s)

Georgianna Lazarus had a wonderful nursing career. First, as a RN and later, a Nurse Practitioner, specializing as an ENT (Ear, nose and throat). Her first Registered nursing position upon graduating from Newton-Wellesley nursing school, located in Newton Massachusetts was Mass General Hospital, located in Boston Mass from 1957-61. Later, she and her husband James P. Lazarus moved to Los Angeles where she worked in the LA areas until 1963. Georgianna and James Lazarus moved to Springfield, MA in 1963, where they resided in the Upper Hill area for many years, raising a family. Georgianna had various nursing positions in Springfield and abroad. Her 1st job in Springfield was Wesson hospital in the 60s, Riverview medical in the North End in early 70s until she joined with the Springfield Action Commission--Project "Head Start" as the health coordinator for the duration of the 1970s, until 1978, when she moved to Amherst, MA to work at the Umass nurse clinic until 1979. Moving back to Springfield in late 1979, she became the Tech High school nurse form 1980-1986. Additionally, in 1982, Georgianna studied at UCONN to become one of the first black Nurse Practitioners of the new medical field. She also laterally worked at the Springfield Health department and from 1984-86 was a clinical nurse at Springfield College infirmary while still working her day nursing job at Tech High. In 1986, Georgianna moved back to Amherst, MA to work as the school nurse for both Amherst Regional High and Jr. High until around 1991 when she moved to Hartford, CT to work as a school nurse for Weaver H.S. Georgianna was also the health coordinator for her Shiloh Church and Springfield 7th Day Adventist Junior Acadamy from the 1999 until the 2010. She worked for the New England Farm Workers Council in Springfield, MA. She worked as a health coordinator in downtown Holyoke, MA. Georgianna also has little highlights of summer nursing positions for Camps Norwich, Massasoit, Natures Classroom, and camp Atwater, spawning from the early 70s to the early 2000s.

Georgianna graduated from Cambridge Ridge and Latin High School class of 54', Cambridge, Massachusetts She graduated from Newton-Wellesley Nursing School, Newton/Boston--class of 57 to become an RN. She attended UCONN to become a Nurse Practitioner,1982. Boston University--Liberal arts. American International College--Human services program for nurses.

A devoted Christian

Georgianna Lazarus (maiden name Nunnally) was raised Catholic by her stepparents in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. She raised her four sons as Catholic and spiritually guided them with passion and love. Taught them how to pray and sent them to many parochial schools. Her personal motto was "To Know, Love and Serve God." In Georgianna's later years, she Joined the Seventh Day Adventist church, in which she devoted the rest of her strong Christian years until her passing. Georgianna brought her son, Michael on a Christian ministry trip to Israel in 2012. They were both interestingly baptized in the Jordan River. Georgianna's happy spirit radiated too others around her. She never shown a display of meanness towards anyone. She loved EVERYONE, so in turn, EVERYONE who encountered her, grew to love her. They felt her cheerful spirit.

Supporting the homeless

Georgianna ardently participated as a volunteer for the --Loaves and Fishes community kitchen in downtown, Springfield, MA for many years.

Her Parents and others

The daughter of George Nunnally and Ava (Garner) Nunnally of Springfield, MA. Georgianna was named Georgia Ann Nunnally, but when her parents passed in the 40's, she and her sister, Francis (Franciose Nunnelle) were adopted by a couple; Angus Stackhouse and "Mom Stackhouse" from the Berkshires, located in western Mass.

Georgianna has three grandchildren: Jarlyn, Precious and Devante

Obituario

Our beloved Mother and friend of many, Georgianna Lazarus, has passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in her Springfield, Massachusetts home on April 22nd, 2025. She lived her life with kindness and a happy spirit that radiated to everyone she met. She has gone to her dwelling place in heaven that is promised to us all, according to John 14:1-6. Her sons: Richard (Ricky), Philip, Michael and Haleem Lazarus, loved and took care of her until the end of her wonderful earthly Christian mission. Georgianna was a great mother, wife of late husband, James P. Lazarus and Public service hero as a nurse and health coordinator, Spanning from 1957 to 2010.

Named By her Father George Nunnally and Mother, Ava Garner: Georgia Ann Nunnally in 1936, was later adopted by the Stackhouse couple from the Berkshires, located in western Mass. The Stackhouse couple re-named her Georgianna B. Nunnally, until her marriage in the late 50s to James P. Lazarus.

Georgianna also leaves three grandchildren: Jarlen, precious and Davante. She will be missed immensely by many people in Springfield and abroad.

Georgianna's family will post when service will be held at her Shiloh Seventh Day Adventist Church, 797 state street, Springfield, MA.
