Obituary

George Edward Whittington II, 76, passed away on March 21, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Born on May 19, 1948, in Tucson, Arizona, George dedicated his life to service and family. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Air Force for 30 years, achieving the distinguished rank of Chief Master Sergeant before retiring at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. His commitment to duty and leadership left a lasting impact on those he served alongside.

George loved sharing his deep knowledge and love of aviation as a Pilot Instructor. Teaching others to fly was more than a career, it was his passion. He took great pride in mentoring aspiring pilots, instilling in them not only the skills to navigate the skies but also the discipline, courage, and respect that aviation demands.

Alaska held a special place in his heart. Its vast landscapes, rugged beauty, and open skies called to his adventurous spirit. Whether soaring above snow-capped peaks, flying over winding rivers, or simply admiring the breathtaking wilderness from above, he found his greatest peace in the Last Frontier.

His devotion to work often came at the expense of time with family, in his later years, he sought to mend those gaps. He reconnected with his children, Richard and Daniele, making up for lost time in meaningful ways. He also built a life with his wife, Ruby, embracing her children and grandchildren as part of his own family. His later years were a testament to growth, reflection, and the understanding that family, in the end, matters most.

Amongst his greatest joys was his bond with his step-grandchildren, Riya and DJ. With whom he shared laughter, wisdom, and a love that knew no difference in blood. He took great pride in being a part of their lives, guiding them with the same dedication and passion he reserved for his own children.

George is survived by his, wife, Ruby, and her daughters Anita, Anju, Rosa, and Marian. Ruby’s grandchildren, Riya and DJ (his little buddy).

George leaves behind his children, Richard Whittington and Daniele (Russell) Yates; grandchildren, Richard, Hailee, Gannon, and Chandler brother, Jim (Janice) Whittington and Kenneth Whittington.

George was preceded in death by his father, George Edward Whittington I.; and mother, Elizabeth Walker Paterson.

George lived a life of passion, discipline, and in the end, love. His legacy soars in the skies he cherished and in the hearts of the family he built-one that was strengthened not by blood, but by the bonds of love and devotion.
