She was a dedicated follower of Jesus and loved sharing her faith with everyone she encountered.
Her father was David Eddie Hilton, and her mother was Pearl S. Hilton. Her mother Pearl died when Geneva was 6 weeks old. Geneva was raised by Nettie “Mother” Hilton. Geneva attended Rocky Mount High School. She graduated from Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta Canada. Geneva was fluent in French and Swahili. She still used her language the last few years of her life conversing with Congolese in the hospital and wither her caregivers. She was a missionary in the Belgium Congo for 7 years.
After being on the mission field in the Belgium Congo, Geneva and Veneda came back the United States and were caregivers for a dear friend, and also worked as nurses at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Geneva was known for her sweet demeanor and genuine hospitality. She often welcomed friends into her home, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met. Geneva loved to play the piano. She and her twin sister Veneda have always lived together. They were only separated for a few short years while they were on the mission field.
Geneva was a quiet, humble, kind, sweet lady who loved to serve others. She shared many memorable moments with her sister including the amusing notoriety they gained living in Atlanta. Because they were twins and had the last name “Hilton” when they made reservations at local restaurants, they were almost always seated immediately. A charming reflection of their shared identity as twins and their last names. Survived by her beloved twin Sister Veneda Hilton and Lutrelle Smith, Geneva’s legacy of love and service will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her live was a testament to her faith and dedication, forever inspiring those around her. In the last years of Geneva’s life, she has been surrounded by so many loving family members who have cared for and spent time with her.
Geneva Joycelyn Hilton, born on June 18, 1928, in Tifton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and spent her life sharing her faith with everyone she encountered.
Geneva was raised by her loving guardian, Nettie “Mother” Hilton, after the passing of her mother, Pearl S. Hilton, when she was just six weeks old. She graduated from Rocky Mount High School and later earned her degree from Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada. Known for her dedication and compassion, Geneva served as a missionary in the Belgian Congo for seven years before returning to the United States, where she and her twin sister, Veneda, provided care for a dear friend and worked as nurses at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Fluent in both French and Swahili, Geneva continued to use her language skills in her later years, conversing with Congolese patients and caregivers. Her sweet demeanor and genuine hospitality left a lasting impression on all who met her. Geneva's home was always open to friends, and she shared many memorable moments with her sister, including the amusing advantages they experienced dining out in Atlanta, where their last name often granted them prompt seating.
Geneva was known for her love of playing the piano, a passion that brought joy to many. Her kind and humble spirit served as an encouragement to those around her, and she is remembered as a quiet but powerful influence in the lives of her family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved twin sister, Veneda Hilton, and her sister, Lutrelle Smith. Geneva's legacy of love and service will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her life was a testament to her faith and dedication, forever inspiring those around her. In her final years, Geneva was surrounded by loving family members who cared for her and spent precious time with her, a reflection of the love she shared throughout her life.
