Gatha Leroy Washington, born on February 1, 1967, in Hobart, Oklahoma, passed away on February 4, 2025, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Known affectionately as Leroy, he was a beloved father, grandfather, brother,uncle and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Leroy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, which included fishing, hunting, and creating cherished memories with family and friends. His fishing trips were legendary, often filled with laughter, tall tales, and a bit of friendly competition. He had a particular fondness for a hearty pot of beans with ham hocks and neck bones, and cant forget that fried catfish.

A fan of music, Leroy enjoyed the powerful lyrics of Tupac but also couldn’t resist a classic country song. He was a long-time viewer of "The Young and the Restless," and he had a passion for football that rivaled his dedication to his studies.

Leroy's adventurous spirit took him to the Gulf of Mexico beach as an adult, where he was captivated by the experience, despite not venturing into the water. He was known for his witty humor sarcastic remarks and often quipped, “I’m still Black and half as cute.” His daughter Leanna always told him, "ya mouth awfully slick" and they wondered where I get it from . Among his proudest accomplishments was setting the record for most rushing yards, a testament to his athletic prowess. He was a dawg on the field.

Leroy leaves behind his children: Samantha Nichols and her husband Cory, Leanna Washington, and Marcus Washington and his wife Chelsea. He cherished his role as a grandfather to DeAndre, Brexton, and great-grandfather to Zeremiah Washington. He is also survived by his parents, Henry and Ida Ma, his brother Bradley, and his niece Fenishia.

Leroy’s larger-than-life personality and warm spirit will be missed, but his legacy will live on through the countless memories he created with his loved ones.
