Gary Anthony Klimek, born on November 2, 1953, in Blue Island, IL, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, in Champaign, IL. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Stephanie Klimek, and their three children: Geoff, Jeremy (and spouse Jessica), and Alex. He was a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren, including Daniel (and spouse Carolyn), Miranda (and spouse John), Rita, and Oliver. He is also survived by his brother, Douglas Klimek, and sisters Kathleen Valente and Barbara Hoffmeyer.
A professional truck driver by trade, Gary was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family. He had a great sense of humor and was warm and caring towards everyone he knew. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing chess. He was an avid learner, always eager to pick up new languages.
Gary had a passion for food, particularly barbecue, Chinese, and Mexican cuisines. He loved listening to music, with The Who being among his favorite bands. Football was another of his interests, but nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren, often seen relaxing in his favorite rocking chair recliner.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
