Obituario

Garrett Mason Ward, beloved son, grandson, cousin, partner, and friend, passed away on June 25, 2024, at the age of 23. He was born on August 2, 2000, in Flowood, MS, and most recently resided in Brandon, MS and Gluckstadt, MS.

Garrett had a zest for life. A true source of joy, Garrett's greatest passion was making people laugh and changing lives. His wit and sense of humor endeared him to all those around him, and he touched many lives with his unyielding kindness and non-judgmental nature.

Garrett had a deep love for God and his faith played a significant role in his life. Psalm 23:4 was a verse that resonated deeply with him. In a relationship with Kara Perkins, Garrett believed they were eternal soulmates and they flourished in reading devotionals and in sharing the Word of the Lord.

Whether he was strumming the guitar, engaging in intense Call of Duty battles with his buddies, immersing himself in the word of the Lord, watching UFC fights, or just spending time with family and friends, Garrett found joy in every endeavor. Known for his insatiable curiosity, Garrett could become an expert on random topics after watching just a few YouTube videos. Garrett had an eclectic taste in music, with Travis Scott, Coldplay, Jimi Hendrix, Post Malone, and 49 Winchester being some of his favorite bands and artists.

Garrett's professional pursuits included working at NiceAutos car dealership and recently obtaining his CDL license. He was also about to begin a new career as a lineman apprentice for SEC (Southern Electric Company).

Garrett is preceded in death by his grandfather Ernest Earl “Ernie” Applewhite Jr.; Cousin Novelle Simpson; Great Grandparents Ernest Earl Applewhite Sr. and Doris Applewhite; Barbara Johnson (Elmer); Icey Day and Gladys Day; and Clyde Ward and Birdie Ward.

Garrett is survived by his father Gary Morris Ward (Sherre Hopewell); his mother Kelly Applewhite LeBlanc (Cliff); the Love of his life Kara Perkins; paternal grandparents, Morris and Patsy Ward; maternal grandparents, Bob and Vana Perry, and Susan Applewhite; aunts and uncles Regina Simpson (Sam), Lisa Applewhite Decker (Tyler), Gina K. Applewhite; first cousins Benjamin Simpson (Savanna), Lucy Decker, and Leela Decker; and numerous other cousins, great aunts and uncles, family members, and friends.

Garrett’s caring nature and ability to make anyone laugh out loud will be cherished and remembered. He leaves behind a legacy of immense happiness and he has positively impacted so many lives. He will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His soul is now at peace with his father in heaven and among his loved ones who have preceded him there.

In remembrance of Garrett’s life and his love for animals, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Oktibbeha County Humane Society or CARA (Community Animal Rescue & Adoption).
