Her family
Gail moved to Long Beach, California in 1963, with her mother and siblings from Kansas City, Missouri.
Her primary education was at Roosevelt Elementary and Franklin Junior High Schools, where she was an exceptional student.
Gail's academic success continued at Poly High School. At Poly, she was a very active part of the student body. She was a cheerleader, pep rally chairwoman and a member of various clubs, one being the Capri Club. While at Poly, she was crowned the first Black homecoming queen.
It was during this time period, that the love story of Gail and Willie began.
In 1965, is when Willie first saw Gail. She was near the banner, outside the rec center.
A year later, their mutual friend Big Luke offered to take Willie to Gail's home. Willie was teased, by his friend, that Gail was out of his league...but deep down, Willie knew that this would be the girl that he would marry.
That was the beginning of a love story that would span over 60 years. They built a beautiful life together.
Gail leaves behind her loving and devoted husband Willie, their sons Aaron(Tiffany) and Brian Sr.(Michele); their grandchildren Jordan, Monique, Brian Jr., Tayvon, Jaron, Jayla and great granddaughters Lilah and Ava.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Vivian Elder, sisters Billie Jean White and Anne Mathis.
She leaves to mourn: her brothers Robert Elder Jr(Gwendolyn) and Alvin White;
Brothers-in-law: Joe Nathan Norwood, Clarence Norwood(Emma), Benjamin Norwood(Lima), Frank Norwood(Jennie), Johnny Norwood(Goldie);
Sisters-in-law: Lucy Jane Spencer, Lucille Lowe(Robert), Mildred Johnson(Clyde);
And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
