Gail (Yia Yia), was a self taught and incredibly talented artist . After her auto accident in 2007, she started, sketching, painting and drawing on recycled boxes of all shapes and sizes. Being partially blind and paralyzed on her left side, did not stop her from creating over 75 incredibly beautiful, caricature, animal, scenery and landscape pieces.
To share Christ with others. God blessed her with grace, compassion, kindness, understanding and most importantly, a servants heart. She shared Christ with people her whole life and they listened because God opened their hearts. She knew the Bible extremely well because she was in the Word everyday. She gladly passed her understanding and knowledge of the Bible to those interested in finding out more about this incredible book.
Gail Elaine West she was 81 years old at the time of her death.
Gail was born on August 29, 1943 in Long Beach, CA, to Faye Irene Nelson and Lawrence Robert Tiernan.
She passed away on November 21, 2024 in Sacramento, CA
She became saved at the age of 3 during a summer visit to her Meamaw's Arkansas farm in 1947. Her belief in Jesus never wavered since that time. A couple of weeks before her passing, she was spreading His word and witnessing to whoever would listen to her, as she shared Christ with them.
Gail grew up in Los Altos Hills, a southern peninsula of the San Francsico Bay Area. She attended high school at Castilleja Girls school in Palo Alto, CA. She was an avid competitive swimmer and roller skate athlete. She worked at Bank of Anerica downtown S.F. as her first job.
She married Charles Kenneth Hodges, they had 5 children, Dee, Kenneth, Wade, William, and Shon. Her youngest son, Shon West, passed away in San Fransisco, CA, in 1996.
In 1968 she married John Joseph West and had her youngest daughter Dawn. They lived in San Jose, Portola Valley, and Vacaville. She later moved out to Bennett Valley in Sonoma County to be closer to her parents, Bill and Faye Gacke. She took care of her parents in their Sonoma home intil they passed away in 2000.
She graduated in 1984 from Santa Rosa Junior College with 2 AA degrees in Meteorology and Economics, she then went on to Sonoma State and graduated in 1987 with her BA in Finance & Accounting. She opened her own accounting firm in 1990 in downtown Santa Rosa, CA. She also worked as a forensic accountant for the FDIC. She was a leader in the Inventors Guild of America. Helping great minds to create patents on their inventions.
Gail was in a debilitating auto accident in Sonoma, CA, in 2007. The accident leaft her partially blind on her right eye and paralyzed on the left side in 2007. She relocated to Sacramento to be closer to her children and enjoyed her grandchildren. Derek, Marcella, Cody, Shanna, Kenneth Jr., Demontae, Teona and her great grandchildren Devin, Zabrina, she adored every minute with them. She had many bonus children and grandchildren in her life.
Her love was big enough for everyone. She made it a point to let them know, they all mattered. That's why she would say "Uga Muga" to family & friends leaving her home or when she ended a call with a loved one. It was her way of saying, I Love You!
There was a Celebration of Life Ceremony held on Dec. 14, 2024. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Frank Delange, who gave a beautiful eulogy. Gail's, 5 children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends attended the Ceremony. Family and friends shared stories and memories of Gail with those in attendance.
