Francis Alfred Hurley, affectionately known as Papa Al, was born on March 28, 1947, in Washington DC and passed peacefully in his home on September 24, 2024, in Longwood, Florida. Al was a devoted husband to his wife of 47 years, Janice Elizabeth Hurley, and a proud father to five children: Gregory Hannigan and his wife Cecelia, Elizabeth Langley and her husband Tony, Patrick Hurley, Julie Taylor and her husband Brett, and Donna Mulvihill and her husband Steve. He also cherished his role as a Grandfather to 10 grandchildren and a Great Grandfather to 9 great-grandchildren.
Al enjoyed a fulfilling career as an HVAC technician and a college professor, where he shared his knowledge and passion with countless students. Beyond his professional life, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at the dog park, where he found joy in the company of his beloved pets. He was a member of the Orlando Goofer's and loved golfing weekly with friends.
Traveling was one of Al's greatest passions, particularly visits to Iceland, which he considered his favorite place in the world. He had a deep appreciation for music, with a particular fondness for the Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and Jerry Garcia. His love for adventure extended to bike riding, and he found great pleasure in watching Formula One racing and history channel shows.
Al's impact on the community was profound; he was an active volunteer for the disaster relief committee, and a volunteer at the Arnold Palmer International for 15 years, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. Despite being color blind, his vibrant spirit shone brightly in the lives of all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife and family and the countless friends whose lives he touched. Al will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for family and friends.
