Graduated from John Marshall High School, earned a B.S. Degree from Richmond Professional Institute in 1952, and an M.Ed. Degree from the University of Virginia in 1962

Taught 6th grade and served as assistant principal in the Henrico County School System, later became principal of Short Pump Elementary School and Maybeury Elementary School, served for 21 years until retirement in 1986

Two daughters, Christi Hatcher and Eileen Hickenbottom, and three grandchildren, Lindsey and Matt Hatcher and Mitchell Curry
