Geno was married to Johnnie Mae Work, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter Polly Williams and his son John Work.
Geno joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served four years in the South Philippines.
After serving in the army, he graduated as a chef from West Kentucky Vocational School and worked as a head chef at Our Savior's Hospital and Passavant Hospital for 35 years.
In his prime, Geno enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting, and trips to Las Vegas. He was also a music lover and a fan of the Cubs and Bears.
He was a member of the Kingsmen Club, Mount Emory Baptist Church, and a Lifetime Member of the Amvets Post 100 in Jacksonville.
Geno was preceded in death by his brothers Avery Williams Jr., James (Jimmy) Williams, and stepbrother Terrance Bates, as well as his sisters Mary Williamson, Virginia Ross, Joan McDonald, Coreen Jones, Betty Wiley, and Arnell Simongton.
A funeral service was held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Jacksonville East Cemetery.
