Ethylene Mary Terry, known affectionately as Ethel, was born on May 4, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, in her hometown, where she spent the majority of her life surrounded by family and friends.
Ethel was a devoted kindergarten teacher, proudly graduating from college and dedicating her career to nurturing young minds. Her love for children extended beyond her profession; she cherished family gatherings and delighted in the presence of her two children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Ethel's family, including her beloved husband James Terry, whom she married in 1968, was the center of her world. She is survived by her daughter Vaneice Terry, son James Terry III, and grandsons Nubia Grice and Daquan Terry, along with her sister Flora McCalister.
Ethel was known for her spunky and feisty personality, always bringing warmth and kindness to those around her. She loved to knit, sew, play horseshoes, and, quite enjoyably, chase chickens on her family property. Her favorite food was Southern country fried chicken, a dish that often graced the table during family gatherings. Ethel was also an active participant in church organizations and school fundraisers, embodying her belief in the importance of community support.
Her favorite quote, "Be kind, be peace," reflects her gentle spirit and the love she shared with everyone. Ethel will be remembered for her caring nature, her supportive demeanor, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
