Ervil Thomas Burns Jr., known to many as Tom or Dirty Dog, passed away at an undisclosed date. He was born on January 8, 1963, in Union, WV, and had most recently resided in Frankford, WV.
Growing up in Alderson and Muddy Creek Mountain, Tom had a deep love for his rural upbringing. After graduating from Greenbrier East High School in 1981, he went on to serve in the United States Air Force for four years and seven months. Tom was a service connected disabled veteran and a proud life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a life member of the NRA and a member of the American Legion.
Tom had a passion for bear hunting with hounds, particularly his favorite breed, Blueticks. He also enjoyed playing guitar and singing with his friends. A devoted fan of Bluegrass, Southern Gospel and traditional country music, Tom always found joy in listening to his favorite bands and artists.
His biggest source of happiness was his son, Jacob Burns, and his beloved grandchildren, Greyson Burns and Amethyst McGehee. Tom cherished spending time with them and treasured every moment and memory made with them.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Ervil Thomas Burns Sr. and Margaret "Peggy" Highlander Burns.
Tom is survived by his son Jacob Thomas Burns, grandson Greyson Thomas Burns, granddaughter Amethyst Rose McGehee, his sister Valerie Burns Boggs and her husband Tim, as well as his nieces Terra Shockley and Tracy Boggs and nephews Lane McGuire and Camden Shockley.
His proudest accomplishments included serving his country, being a dedicated dad, and a loving pawpaw to his grandchildren.
Ervil Thomas Burns Jr. will forever be remembered for his love for his family, and his love for God and Patriotism.
He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
