Ernest “Ernie” passed away from a battle with cancer in his home surrounded by his family.
He was a professional calf roper at the age of 18 after winning numerous rodeos in Texas and Oklahoma.
Ernie met Charlotte Svoboda at a rodeo in California and her father told him there would be no wedding without a college degree. He was told by college counselor to study animal husbandry and to start with a high school diploma. Ernie told the engineering counselor “I will be back”.
He graduated with his Bachelors in Civil engineering and went on to retire from Corp of Engineers after reaching GS 13 and lived/worked in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel.
Ernie loved the Red Sea, marathons, finding solutions to problems, Greece, playing the guitar, tennis, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by five children Matt & Anita Hale, Louisville, Ky, Dave & April Bardy, Eugene, Oregon, Catherine Clevinger, Corvallis, Oregon, Luis & Jody Lopez, Eugene, Oregon, Chris Hale, Blacksburg, Virginia. Grandchildren Isaac Hale, Isaiah Hale, Joe Bardy, June Clevinger.
