Obituary

Ernest George Cook, affectionately known as Ernie or Pappa, passed away on April 5, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on August 8, 1954, in Miami, Florida, he spent his later years residing in Creve Coeur, Illinois.

Ernie was a devoted family man who took immense pride in raising his beautiful and successful children, Kathryn (Brian) Beatty, Tonya Carty, William Cook, Zack Cook, and Brian Pancherovich. He was also a cherished grandfather to 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for family was unparalleled, and he found joy in spending time with them, sharing his hobbies, and teaching valuable life lessons such as “Don’t sweat the small stuff; it’s all small stuff.”

Professionally, Ernest was a skilled tree surgeon known for his ability to fix or build anything. He was also an accomplished Chess Master, with a passion for the game that reflected his strategic mind and patience. Ernie enjoyed bowling, playing darts, and indulging in his favorite foods, including peanut M&M's, butterscotch candies, good BBQ, and seafood. He had a soft spot for classic rock music and enjoyed watching the Miami Dolphins play.

Ernest was known for his adventurous spirit, having caught both rattlesnakes and alligators with his bare hands. One memorable anecdote involved him bringing an alligator home, which later escaped in the house, creating a chaotic yet humorous situation that his family would fondly remember.

He was a strong but silent presence, always ready to help anyone in need and active in supporting his wife, Patricia Cook, with her various community endeavors. The couple shared over 20 wonderful years of marriage, marked by love and partnership.

Ernest is survived by his beloved wife, 5 children, 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, 4 siblings and numerous friends who will miss his unwavering support and kind heart. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the family he adored.
