Endora Denise Smith aka "Pookey" was born in Chicago, Il on 1-19-1971 to Katherine Smith and the late Herman Randle. She precedes in death grandparents, Dan and Susie Johnson of Cruger, MS. She lived in the Henry Hornet Projects until 1982. A new journey began when the family relocated to Racine, WI. Where she attended Mitchell Middle School and J.I. Case High school. Where she graduated from in 1989. She also attended Gateway Technical College for Nursing Assistance. Her adult hood journey she became a mother of 3 children. Antwain Bogan, Takeria Smith, and Dashaun Smith. She also worked in various careers til she landed a job as a Nurses Aide at Hazelwood Nursing Home 2011 til 2021. She then worked in housekeeping for University of Louisville til 2022 when she retired. Endora was known for her smile and the love of her Grandkids. Desirea, Antwain Jr, and Natalie Bogan- Antwain. Jermain- Takera, and Deshaun has 2 children and one on the way. She leaves behind her siblings. Ruby Hopkins of Louisville, Kentucky, Clemon Groves and Joseph Groves of Brooklyn, MN, Yvonne Groves of Louisville, KY, Rochelle Smith and Latonya Smith of Holiday, FL. She have special Cousins Yolanda and Alfreda Johnson of Chicago, IL. Her best friends the late Diane Ivory, Stephanie Everson, Michelle Hoode, Francine Nellom, and Artisa Jones. The family would like to thank everyone for there thoughts, prayers, and phone calls.
Endora Denise Smith, affectionately known as "Pookey," was born on January 19, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois, to Katherine Smith and the late Herman Randle. She passed away on December 15, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, where she spent her final years.
Endora spent her early childhood in the Henry Hornet Projects before moving with her family to Racine, Wisconsin, in 1982. She attended Mitchell Middle School and graduated from J.I. Case High School in 1989. Following her graduation, Endora pursued a career in nursing, attending Gateway Technical College to become a Nursing Assistant.
As a devoted mother, Endora raised three children: Antwain Bogan, Takeria Smith, and Dashaun Smith. Her greatest pride and joy came from her grandchildren: Desirea, Antwain Jr., and Natalie Bogan; Jermain from Takeria; and two children from Dashaun, with another on the way.
Endora's career included various roles, but she dedicated a significant portion of her life as a Nurses Aide at Hazelwood Nursing Home from 2011 to 2021. She then worked in housekeeping at the University of Louisville until her retirement in 2022.
Known for her warm smile and boundless love for her grandchildren, Endora touched the lives of many. She is survived by her mother, Katherine Smith, and her siblings: Ruby Hopkins of Louisville, Kentucky; Clemon Groves and Joseph Groves of Brooklyn, Minnesota; Yvonne Groves of Louisville, Kentucky; Rochelle Smith and Latonya Smith of Holiday, Florida. Endora also leaves behind special cousins Yolanda and Alfreda Johnson of Chicago, Illinois, as well as cherished friends, including the late Diane Ivory, Stephanie Everson, Michelle Hoode, Francine Nellom, and Artisa Jones.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Endora Denise Smith will be remembered for her unwavering spirit, her love for family, and the joy she brought to those around her.
