Emma Jean Jackson, also known as Mama Em, passed away on January 22, 2024, at the age of 64. She was born on September 12, 1959, in Puerto Rico, and most recently resided in Hattiesburg, MS.
Emma was a loving and wise woman who dedicated her life to taking care of her loved ones. Her favorite hobbies included gardening, cooking, shopping, and spending time with her family. She found solace in her garden, which she considered her favorite place in the world.
Emma had a passion for food and enjoyed dishes such as pot roast, rice with gravy biscuits, pork chops with Mac and cheese, cornbread, and candied yams. She also had a fondness for blues music, with her favorite song being "Kiss of Life" by Sade.
She was a proud mother and grandmother, cherishing her time with her children and grandchildren. Emma's proudest accomplishment was building her first house alongside her father. She had a successful career in nursing and military police.
Emma had a big heart and a selfless nature, always willing to help those in need. She would often assist the homeless on the streets and opened her home to anyone who needed shelter. Emma actively participated in community organizations and donated clothes, food, and warm blankets to shelters.
Known for her leadership, Emma held weekly charity meetings at her house. She believed in giving flowers while people were still alive, so they could appreciate their value. Her impact on the lives of others was immeasurable, as she made sure everyone had their needs met.
Emma Jean Jackson is survived by her husband, Edgar Jackson, and her children: Prince, Austin, Vickey, Betty, and Carly P. Jackson. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
In memory of Emma, the family requests flowers, butterflies, and mockingbirds. She will be dearly missed but always remembered for her kind and caring spirit.
