Ella Grant, affectionately known as "Wheezzy," was born on October 27, 1952, in Canton, Ohio, and passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, in Gastonia, North Carolina. Ella was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings, including Edward Grant, and a large, loving family that includes her cherished children: Shalonda Grant, Rashawn Oliver, Lanette Burgess Lynch, and her grandchildren Deladea Grant, Shakela Stokes, Sharea’ Grant, Shakenna Grant, and Shaneane Grant.
Ella enjoyed engaging conversations with her grandkids and often found solace in watching her favorite stories on television. Known for her sense of humor and caring nature, she had a bit of a mischievous side that endeared her to those around her, leaving them with fond memories of her playful spirit. Her love for meatloaf and peach cobbler was well-known, often shared during family gatherings where laughter echoed through her home.
A passionate football fan, Ella was a devoted supporter of the Cleveland Browns, never shying away from expressing her loyalty. One of her favorite places in the world was anywhere she could visit her great-grandchildren, where her heart truly thrived. A memorable moment shared by her family recalls a time when she playfully intervened during a sibling squabble, only to feel guilty afterward and take them out for a treat at Patrick’s.
Ella's impact on her family and friends was immeasurable. She was the confidante and safe haven for many, creating a space where everyone felt comfortable sharing their lives with her. She will be dearly missed but remembered for the laughter, love, and warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
She didn’t want a funeral. She said “ y’all better not have no damn funeral , cremate me and have a party”. She wanted to be celebrated she said she wanted everyone to smoke enough for her .
