Elizabeth “Betty” McGinley
October 15, 1946 - July 28, 2024

Betty McGinley, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and faithful Catholic, passed away on July 28, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on October 15, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, she leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering faith.

Betty's greatest joy in life was her children: Joanne Werner (Peter Werner), Elizabeth Hobbs (Christopher Hobbs), Siobhan McGinley (Skully Sullivan), and John McGinley. She poured her heart and soul into raising them and always made sure they had the life she had always wanted for herself. Alongside her children, Betty is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: John Werner, Ella Werner, and Melody Hobbs, who brought immeasurable happiness to her days.

A tiny woman with an indomitable spirit, Betty possessed a will and determination that inspired all who knew her. She was the definition of the "Fighting Irish," never backing down from a challenge and facing life's obstacles head-on. Betty's strength remained unwavering until the end, leaving a lasting impression on those who were fortunate to witness her resilience.

Betty’s deep connection to the Catholic Church was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted parishioner of Saint Ann's Church in Fair Lawn, NJ, where she found solace, guidance, and community. Her unwavering faith and her role in the church were a testament to her unwavering devotion.

In her free time, Betty once enjoyed sitting at the head of her dining room table surrounded by her sisters in the Fair Lawn House, her favorite place in the world. It was there that she created countless cherished memories with her loved ones, hosting family BBQs and gatherings that brought joy to all. She also found comfort in her favorite TV shows, including Law and Order, ER, and CSI, and enjoyed spending evenings watching her favorite shows.

Betty's life was also enriched by the companionship of her pets, who provided her with unwavering love and affection. In her passing, she will be joyfully reunited with Pal, Puddles, Gypsy, Tara, Spunky Orange Juice, Herbie, Liddle, Avery, and all the other cherished pets that brought her comfort over the years.

Betty’s impact on the lives of others is immeasurable. Her loving nature, forgiving spirit, and unwavering support touched the hearts of all who knew her. She made sure her children had the life she always wanted, ensuring they had the opportunities and love they deserved. Her generosity and selflessness extended far beyond her immediate family, as she embraced her siblings and all her beloved nieces and nephews. She leaves sisters Barbara Denny, Eileen Windle, Mary Feinstein, and brother James Lenihan, offering them unwavering support and love throughout their lives. She will join her parents James and Margaret Lenihan, and sisters Peggy Delgaudio, Dorothy Myles, Kathrine Zimmardi, Sr. Ann Lenihan, and Teresa Lenihan.

In remembrance of Betty, her family recalls the Memorial Days spent at the Mendham Convent, the laughter-filled family BBQs in Fair Lawn, and her notorious habit of pushing the gas gauge to the absolute limit before getting gas. Late-night trips to "The Milk Jug" will be fondly remembered, a testament to Betty's spirited sense of fun and adventure.

Betty McGinley will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, as they carry forward the love, strength, and compassion she embodied. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved husband of 29 years and 11 months and 25 days, John McGinley, and all those who have gone before her.

A celebration of her life will be planned in the future. This site adds the tree thing. It’s not necessary. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Emmanuel Cancer foundation, a food pantry that gives food and home supplies to families dealing with pediatric cancer. ttps://www.emmanuelcancer.org/ways-to-donate
