She loved to sew and made many matching outfits for her four girls during their school years. She learned to crochet from her Mom and spent many hours making baby blankets for friends and family. She also crocheted and donated hundreds of blankets for new Moms in need through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She was an avid cook and loved to create meals from whatever she had on hand. She deemed these as “Betty Specials.” She also had a love for plants, flowers and bird watching.

Mrs. Cohron loved to send cards and had a greeting card file stocked with cards for every occasion. She sent hundreds of handwritten notes over the years with words of encouragement and gratitude. She loved people and never met a stranger.

Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Cohron passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 89 in Winder, Georgia. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, she led a life filled with love, creativity, and dedication to her family and friends. She was a faithful, founding member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Winder, GA, where she was the organist for over 30 years.

A retired Manager from Sears, Roebuck & Company, Betty was known for her incredible sewing skills, creating many matching outfits for her four daughters during their school years. She had a passion for crocheting, which she learned from her mother, spending countless hours crafting baby blankets for loved ones and donating hundreds more to new mothers in need through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. An avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast, Betty also enjoyed cooking and was celebrated for her "Betty Specials," inventive meals made with whatever ingredients she had on hand.

Betty had a deep love for nature, finding joy in plants, flowers, and bird watching. She was a spirited sports fan, cheering on the Braves, Falcons, and the Georgia Bulldogs. Her warm-hearted nature was evident in her love for sending cards, as she kept a well-stocked greeting card file for every occasion and shared hundreds of handwritten notes filled with encouragement and gratitude. Betty had a remarkable ability to connect with people, never meeting a stranger and cherishing friendships deeply.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jack McGann and Mary S. Jordan, and her only son, Jay Cohron.


Betty is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, James (Jim) Edward Cohron, Sr. She is also survived by her four daughters, Julie Cohron, Suzie Cohron, Cindy Cohron Perry (Bob), and Betsy Cohron Adams (Cliff), along with her grandchildren Morgan Adams, Mitch Adams (Paige), Elizabeth Perry, Heather Perry, and great-grandchildren Gracie Lindblad and Evie Adams. She is also survived by her sisters Pat Stivers (Larry), Mary Moore, brothers Lawrie Jordan (Cathi) and Robert Jordan (Patti), sister-in-law Joyce Bingemer, brother-in-law Ronald Cohron, and many loving nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 1st at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Winder, GA.

Betty's legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will live on in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
