Elgin Fleming, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on June 22, 2024, in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. He was born on May 20, 1963, to Eugene Johnson and Shirley Fleming.
Elgin was a man of many passions and interests. He had a deep love for reading and constantly sought new knowledge. He also enjoyed singing, stepping, cooking, and watching martial arts movies. Elgin's favorite foods included Spanish rice and beans, steak tacos, vanilla shakes, and chicken. He loved listening to bands and musical artists such as Jodeci, Lil Wayne, and Snoop Dogg.
Known for his diverse talents, Elgin practiced martial arts, brought laughter as a comedian, and had a remarkable ability to fix anything he put his hands on. However, his greatest joy in life came from his family. Elgin cherished his loved ones and made it his mission to ensure they always felt loved.
In his free time, Elgin enjoyed watching martial arts and karate movies, old Westerns, and anything with vampires. He will be remembered for his warm-heartedness, sense of humor, and sociable nature. Elgin impacted the lives of those around him by loving unconditionally and offering unwavering protection without judgment.
Elgin is survived by his wife, Rhonda, and their children: Elgin Jr. (Miranda), Paul, Eugina (Mark), Ieshia, Pernell, Amber, and Andre. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Shaniyla, Damarco, Damarcus, Joshua, Makayla, Victoria, Aliyah, Faith, Brianne, Madyson, Maurice, Syanne, Desi, and Chantel. Elgin was preceded in death by his daughter, Quintana, and his brother, Lewis Fleming. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Shay.
Among his proudest accomplishments, Elgin earned a bachelor's degree and excelled as an automotive mechanic. He lived by the motto, "Keep learning; knowledge is power," and firmly believed that family was the most important thing in life.
Elgin will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace, forever remembered for his kindness, humor, and love for his family.
