Elba Alice Coy, 97, died Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Signature HealthCare at Rockford in Louisville, Kentucky.

She is survived by a daughter, Annette Coy-Perry of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; a son, Daniel Coy of Pensacola, Florida; a granddaughter, Shannon Smith; a great-granddaughter, Aurora Coy-Smith and many friends across the United States. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Coy, and son Gilford Coy.

In a final act of giving, Alice’s body was donated to medical science. No formal memorial service is planned.

Alice was born in Brandenton, Florida on December 18, 1928. She moved to Kentucky as a young adult. In Kentucky, she found a group of people with whom she would worship God for the remainder of her life. She and her husband moved to St. Louis, Missouri with their young family but returned to Kentucky after a few years.

Alice enjoyed gardening, serving fresh fruit and vegetables to her family during the growing season and canning the produce for later consumption. She also found time to sew and crochet.

From a young age, Alice enjoyed music. She played guitar and sang. When she had children, she taught them music or sent them for music lessons.

As her physical health failed but her mind remained sharp, Alice kept as active as her physical limitations allowed. She made quilts and published a paper she called Bits of Wisdom. She was well known at her local library as one of their faithful patrons. She borrowed and read a constant supply of books.

Keeping in touch with her many friends remained important to Alice. After she became unable to live at home and went to live at Rockford Manor, she kept a list of friends’ telephone numbers by her bed and made and received regular telephone calls. She spoke with some friends every day. She was always concerned about others and, even though bedfast, she always inquired how someone else was doing.

Though Alice had been unable to attend church services for a long time, she enjoyed watching tapes of church services and receiving visits from people she knew from church.
