It is with unimaginable grief that we announce the passing of Eileen Hrobuchak Rich, after a short but hard-fought battle with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer, on Wednesday, January 4th at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Her beloved husband Steve of 38 years was faithfully by her side.
She was a loving wife, devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt and niece and loyal and compassionate friend. She will always be remembered for her quiet elegance and beauty and her kindness and compassion to everyone she met. She was a dedicated old school nurse for over 50 years taking care of many patients and their families within the community. She was everything to many people.
She was the beloved mother of Jonathan Rich, Scranton; grandmother to Bennett and Hunter Ellman; mother-in-law to Scott Ellman; sister to David and Gail Hrobuchak, Harrisburg and aunt to their daughters Hannah and Ingrid and sister to Richard Hrobuchak, White Pine, Tenn and aunt to his children Phillip and Mindy, sister-in-law to Sandra Hrobuchak, Old Forge and aunt to her daughters Krista Seitzinger and Kara Sammon, and niece to Mildred Hrobuchak, Clarks Summit and Stephen Haschak Old Forge; cousins and many friends.
Eileen was a graduate of Abington Heights High School, class of 1971, and received her nursing degree from Mercedian School of Nursing in Scranton, PA. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Taylor and the Church of St. Benedict, Newton-Ransom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Dorothy Haschak Hrobuchak; her beloved daughter, Ashleigh Nicole Ellman, on May 29, 2022 and her brother, Robert Hrobuchak.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. John Diakiw and his office for their care and support, Dr. Meghan Haggerty and her office for their kindness and compassion, Dr. Lisa Thomas, Physician Assistant Nicole Francis, Chemo Nurses and their office for their extraordinary care and kindness , and the Emergency Room Doctors and Nurses at Geisinger CMC for their attentiveness and compassionate care.
Family and friends are invited to attend Eileen’s Mass of Christian Burial, which will be Saturday, January 14th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Benedict, 1849 Newton Ransom Blvd., Clarks Summit, to be celebrated by Monsignor Joseph J. Quinn, pastor. Burial with Rite of Committal will follow in Milwaukee Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, January 13th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Semian Funeral Home LLC, 704 Union St., Taylor. Parastas services by the Rev. Eduard Shestak will be at 3:30 p.m. Please visit www.semiancares.com to share memories and condolences to Eileen’s family.
