Beloved Husband and Devoted Father, Edwin E. Givens, 68, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Newark, NJ, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Edwin, affectionately known as "Snake" during his days at Vailsburg High School in Newark, was celebrated for his remarkable agility and prowess on the football field.
Born on December 26, 1955, in Moultrie, Georgia, Edwin Eugene exemplified courage and dedication throughout his life. He valiantly served in the United States Army as a Flight Medic for 20 years, undertaking missions across the United States and Europe, earning numerous commendations before his honorable discharge in 1998.
Edwin leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, survived by his cherished wife of 47 years, the former Joanne Spencer, his devoted daughter, Kiwana Givens-Harris, as well as several siblings, in-laws, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
Funeral services honoring Edwin's life will be held on April 1, 2024, at the Community Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Texas. His memory will forever remain a beacon of inspiration to all who knew him.
