Graduated from Odessa High School in Odessa, Texas in 1953, obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas in 1960, and graduated from law school at the University of Southern California in 1965
Worked as a salesman for the Underwood Corporation and Proctor and Gamble Company, practiced law with the Los Angeles firm of Adams, Duque & Hazletine and later with the law office of Louis Lee Abbott, and joined the firm of Perkins Coie in Seattle in 1968 where he became a partner in 1973
Organized and chaired Perkins Coie's real estate department, opened the firm's first branch offices in Anchorage, Alaska and Bellevue, Washington, and was Editor-in-Chief of the Washington Real Property Deskbook
American Bar Association, Washington State Bar Association, King County Bar Association, Alaska Bar Association, California Bar, and American College of Real Estate Lawyers
Cruised the coastal waters of Washington and British Columbia, enjoyed writing fiction, children's books, and poetry, and was a member of several literary organizations
American Legion, Seattle Yacht Club, H.A. McFarland Lodge No. 1338, AF and AM, First Baptist Church of Georgetown, Texas, and Sammamish Presbyterian Church in Sammamish, Washington
