On Monday, March 13th, Edward Carl Smith was found, by his dedicated caregiver and friend Allie Greenhow, to have died at his home. Carl had suffered with a variety of health challenges for many years.
Carl is preceded in death by his father Irving T. Smith. Carl is survived by his mother, Shirley, and his siblings: Vanessa Morris (Clifton), Sharon Johnson (Randy Sr.), Pauletta Delgado (Ed), Irving Smith, and Theodore Smith (Teresa.) Carl is also survived by a large family including his Aunt Elizabeth Parker, his Uncle Edward Carl Cain (Carl's namesake), and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and descendants from the Francis family.
As a teenager Carl developed a passion for cooking which led to his profession in the food and hospitality industry. During the years when Carl was able to work he was employed in various restaurants, sometimes as a cook and on other occasions in management.
Carl was a steadfast believer in Jesus Christ from his youth, active in churches wherever he lived. Most recently, he worshipped from his home in Spotsylvania County online as an active member of Restoration International Network Ministries in Maryland, Tennessee. Carl joined in the weekly prayer ministry, actively worshipped with them and gave financial support. All who knew Carl were familiar with his habit of sharing words he referred to as "prophetic messages."
At a very young age Carl became an unwavering fan of the Dallas Cowboys NFL team. In fact, every conversation with Carl quickly revealed his lifelong Passion for the Dallas Cowboys and his knowledge of virtually every aspect of the team.
The Smith family thanks those who have expressed condolences. The family is appreciative of the professional care and services provided by Covenant Funeral Home in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
