Duane Parker, a devoted father and nature enthusiast, passed away surrounded by friends and family on September 14, 2024, at the age of 66. Born on March 15, 1958, in New York, NY, Duane spent his later years in Bon Aqua, TN, where he embraced a life off the grid, deeply connected to nature.
Duane was a simple man with a profound appreciation for the outdoors. His favorite hobbies included hiking, bird watching, carpentry, and welding, activities that allowed him to immerse himself in the beauty of the world around him. often sharing these moments with family and friends. Music was a constant companion in his life, with him being an avid player of the saxophone. He resonated with artists like Jim Croce, Michael Jackson, and Bill Withers
Living a life filled with adventure, Duane was known for his love of hunting for food and crafting with his hands. He found joy in being outdoors and cherished every moment spent with family, particularly his son, Brad Parker. Duane often expressed that his proudest accomplishment was raising his children. He was also survived by his brother, Nathan Parker, nephew Spencer Parker, niece Jade Henson, and nephew Pateon Parker.
Duane's strong personality was characterized by his disdain for government bureaucracy, going as far as keeping his money in a shoebox underneath his bed, because he didn’t believe in banks. Duane didn’t trust a single politician, which shaped his decision to live off the grid.
He once said, "There’s no glory to be found in life by playing small," a motto that mirrored his belief in living life to the fullest. His favorite place in the world was the Grand Canyon, which he usually visited once a year.
Duane's warm spirit, quick wittedness, and open-hearted nature impacted many lives, making him a beloved figure among friends and family. As a Christian, he embraced his faith, finding solace in his beliefs. He will be remembered for his big heart and his ability to live authentically, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and love.
A funeral service for Duane will be held on Friday, September the 20th, at 1 pm with visitation beginning two hours prior at New Hope Baptist church in Bon Aqua Tn. Per request it will be a gathering of only close family and friends.
