Donnie Ray Holyfield, known affectionately as Don Holyfield, was born on November 21, 1946, in Dobson, NC. He passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, in Elkin, NC, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Donnie was a devoted father to his son, Christopher Matthews, and his daughter, Tina Woodlief. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, John Christopher Matthews, Tylin Cade Matthews, and Danielle Marie Woodlief, as well as his great-grandchild, Jayden Lee Hopkins. Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A lover of music, Donnie had a particular fondness for the artist Jewel and enjoyed a diverse array of musical genres. He was known for his fun personality, often playing Bingo and engaging in lively conversations with his sister, Gladiona. Interestingly, Donnie once lived in the same apartments as boxer Evander Holyfield, and they would occasionally receive each other's mail.

He was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying college basketball, especially during the March Madness season. TV shows like the Andy Griffith Show, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy were among his favorites.
Donnie is survived by his children and grandchildren, along with a host of friends and family who will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, and sister. His spirit will live on through the love he shared with those around him, and he will be deeply missed.
Was intended to be a graveside only but due to prediction of rain will be held inside..
