Donald Cornel Wright, Sr. was born on September 18, 1946, in Nassawadox, Virginia, to Jenever & Leona Wright, and passed away on September 8, 2024, in Tracy, California. Known affectionately as Cornel by his family, and Don by friends he made after leaving Virginia, he lived a life full of love and dedication.
Don spent his formative years attending Virginia’s Eastern Shore schools, graduating from Northampton County High School in 1965. He later was drafted into the Army & served time in Vietnam.
After serving honorably in the Army, Don began work at United Airlines, & retired in 2002 as a ramp service employee after 34 years. At United, he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his job. He was married to his beloved wife, Elaine Wright, for fifty years, sharing a life filled with joy and companionship.
Don & Elaine were parents to three children: Alan Robinson, LaNee Wright, and Donnie Wright; grandparents to five cherished grandchildren: Alexis Lawsin, Isaiah Pleasant, Noah Pleasant, Thaddeus Cheatham, and Melody Wright; and one cherished great grandson: Ian Lawsin. Don leaves behind his wonderful wife, Elaine, his daughter LaNee, and his youngest son’s fiancée, Yvette Becerra. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Sawyer and Pamela Wright-Brunache, 3 brothers-in-law: JC Brunache, Melvin Richards, & Robert Richards, sister-in-law Maurice Wright, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends.
A man of many interests, Don had a passion for cars and enjoyed sharing this enthusiasm with those around him. Raised in the African Methodist Episcopal faith, he was a deeply spiritual individual who found solace in his beliefs.
He will be remembered for his warm spirit, love for family, and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him.
We'll plant real trees for you in Donald's memory and display your contribution forever.
