Dennis James Gilchrist, age 65, was born on July 18, 1960, and peacefully passed away on December 23, 2025, at 8:05 p.m. at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana.
Dennis was a proud United States Army veteran who served his country with honor, courage, and dedication. During his military service, he was stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas, where he served as a Tactical Wire Operator Specialist. His commitment to excellence was recognized through several military honors, including the Sharpshooter Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Army Service Ribbon. The values instilled through his military service—strength, discipline, resilience, and perseverance—guided him throughout his life and were reflected in his unwavering love and devotion to his family.
Dennis received his early education at Oliver S. Westcott Elementary School, where he proudly graduated in June of 1975, laying the foundation for a life marked by determination and service.
He leaves to cherish his memory his three beloved daughters: Latoya Wade of Indianapolis,Indiana, Shannise Seymour of East Chicago, Indiana, and Desiree McDonald of Chicago, Illinois. He was a devoted and loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Juwuan Green, Najala Riley, Dina Riley, Keelen Seymour, Kayla Seymour, Kamiya Seymour, Sirvell, Paris, Londyn, Tremir, each of whom held a special and cherished place in his heart.
Dennis is also survived by his beloved niece, Shatara , and great-niece, Samarah, who will fondly remember his guidance, wisdom, and presence in their lives.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Severdie Gilchrist; his sisters, Gwendolyn Nowling and Erma Robinson; and his cherished grandson, Dennis Riley Jr.
Dennis James Gilchrist will be remembered for his honorable military service, quiet strength, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and extended family, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
