David William Clarkson, lovingly known as “Dave,” passed away on May 4, 2026, a date that held special meaning to him as an avid Star Wars fan. Fittingly, he “ventured into the cosmos” on his favorite day of the year: Star Wars Day.
At the center of David’s life was his beloved wife, Jeannine Kay Clarkson, lovingly known as “Jeans.” Their life together was built on love, loyalty, resilience, and family. He was a member of Grace Community Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, David was the eldest of four children born to Vernon “VC” Clarkson and Lynn Clarkson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Clarkson.
David is survived by his sisters, Stacy Melton and Shannon Clarkson. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews through Stacy Melton’s family, including Drew McFalls and Madison McFalls, as well as great-nephew Kaiden Schaposs and Jaxon Schaposs.
David was a proud and loving father to Joshua (Joanie) and Jessica Battelini, and a devoted grandfather to Kodie Jackson. He also embraced his role as stepfather to Nicole (Matt) Snyder, Tera Greer, and Aaron (Renee) Young. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Jennifer Geisleman.
David’s legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
David earned an Associate Degree in Fine Arts from the University of South Carolina and dedicated over forty years of his life to the automotive industry. He was known not only for his hard work and dedication, but also for his endless curiosity and passion for teaching others practical life skills whether it was fixing brakes, understanding math, or discussing government and politics.
His interests were as vast as the universe he admired so deeply. David loved building model airplanes and assembling LEGO sets, especially Star Wars editions. He had a special appreciation for collecting books and action figures, and he never outgrew his love for Toy Story.
He was an enthusiastic student of history, especially World War II and the American Civil War, and he had a deep fascination with astrology and the night sky. Family members often relied on him to announce upcoming eclipses and explain constellations and star formations.
He also enjoyed simpler pleasures like playing cards, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, and spending time with those he loved most.
To his loved ones, David was much more than his hobbies and interests. He was kind-hearted, caring, supportive, and deeply devoted to his family. He encouraged the people around him, believed in lifting others up, and made those he loved feel important. He had a deep affection for his pets especially Orion, Penelope “Pouh”, and Scooter and adored his “grand doggies” as part of the family.
David’s life was filled with passion, knowledge, humor, and love. While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his memory will continue to live on through the stories he shared, the lessons he taught, and the family he cherished.
A memorial fund has been established in David’s honor to help support the family with funeral and memorial expenses during this difficult time. Any donation, shared memory, or act of kindness is deeply appreciated as we celebrate the life and legacy of a man who gave so much to those around him.
He now rests among the stars he spent a lifetime admiring.
May the Force be with him, always.
A memorial fund has been established in David’s honor to assist the family with funeral and memorial costs. The family sincerely appreciates the love, support, and generosity shown during this time.
