David Ronald Hargis, known affectionately as "Super Dave" or CD, passed away on July 13, 2024, just two days before his 68th birthday. He was born on July 15, 1956, in San Angelo, TX, and most recently resided in Liberty, TX.
David had a passion for music and was a devoted fan of David Phelps, Steve Green, and The Moody Blues. He possessed a unique singing voice that resembled Jim Nabors and a speaking voice reminiscent of Gomer Pyle. David also had a deep love for Mexican food and enjoyed indulging in his favorite dishes.
To David, nothing was more important than his wife, Holly, and their beloved fur babies. Home was his favorite place in the world, and he found solace in watching TV shows like "The Andy Griffith Show," "Gunsmoke," and "The Rifleman." As a football enthusiast, David was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
David attended McAllen High School, graduating with the Class of 1974. He later pursued higher education at East Texas State University and Pan Am University. Professionally, David worked as an oilfield pumper and ultimately became a foreman at Denbury Resources, where he achieved great success.
In his spare time, David was actively involved in his community. He regularly donated blood and helped lead worship at First Baptist Church in Liberty.
David is survived by his adoring wife of 37 years, Holly Hargis, as well as his brothers, Steve Hargis (Donna) and Sam Hargis (Gay). He is also survived by 6 nieces and 2 nephews. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and a beautiful smile that brightened the lives of those around him.
Although David had five children waiting for him in heaven, his heart was always filled with love for the countless pets he cared for throughout his lifetime. His current pets, Hannah, Cassie, Georgia, Max, Petunia, Sissy, Lilly, JJ, and Pepper, held a special place in his heart.
David will be remembered for his cheerful and upbeat demeanor, his giving nature, and his deep impact on others through his work and music. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate David's life, allowing friends and family to come together and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Liberty, TX, The Valley Players of Liberty, or ThisIsHouston animal rescue.
