David Jernigan Jr., born on February 2, 1947, in Houston, TX, passed away on August 4, 2024, in Clinton, MD. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend known for his unwavering dedication to family and community.
David joined the military after his father told him that would be the best thing for him to do. And he did and served 23 years in the Airforce retired as a SMSGT. David and his family were able to travel around the world because of his decision to join the Military. He was very proud to serve his country.
David grew up with a love for music, sports, and dancing, he enjoyed coaching and mentoring the younger generation, sharing his wisdom and passion for life. He was an avid fan of good blues music, enjoying artists like James Brown, Johnnie Taylor, and Bobby Blue Bland. His culinary favorites included hot links, corn, steak, and seafood, which he often enjoyed with family and friends.
David married Doris Jernigan when he was just 18 and she was 15, a partnership that lasted nearly 59 years. He had four children: three sons, Darren, David, and Daryl, and a daughter, Debra Miller. He was a proud father and cherished the time spent with his family, including his three daughters-in-law, Amelia, Latonya, and Kim, as well as many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, David was always ready to engage in spirited conversations about football, backing up his opinions with facts. He enjoyed watching shows on the ION TV channel, especially Chicago P.D. and Law & Order.
David Jernigan Jr. is survived by his wife Doris, his children, and his siblings Harline Anderson, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Shurlyn Stanton. He will be remembered for his commitment to providing the best for his family, his impeccable style, and his infectious enthusiasm for life. David's legacy of love and guidance will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
