Survivor of infectious disease

David survived contracting AIDS through the sharing of needles in 1982 and lived with it although barely seen in his system until 2024. He also was treated for Hepatitus C and shed this disease almost completely also. He lived a sober life in recovery for alchoholism since 1982 without relapse. A resounding victory requiring a strong will. It should be noted that this was all immediately after coming back from Vietnam as a veteran of this war.

David loved nothing more than

to ride a motorcycle.

Obituario

David Allan Acosta, born on March 29, 1955, in Long Beach CA, passed away on May 21, 2024, in Denton, TX. David was a man of diverse interests and a fascinating life. 

In his youth, David was an award-winning violinist showcasing his  exceptional talent, until he severed a pinky tendon on his left hand while in service which ended his violin playing. He served as a Fireman Apprentice in Engine Room #2 in the navy during the Vietnam War, demonstrating his bravery and dedication to his country. David also  had a passion for reading and smoking pipes, finding solace and enjoyment in these simple pleasures.

When it came to food, David had a fondness for spaghetti, breakfast burritos and home fries, relishing in carbohydrates. He was also known for his extensive knowledge and trivia on numerous subjects, possessing a superpower for sharing rarely known facts about people, and things. 


David's favorite place in the world was Arrowbear Music Camp, where he found solace and inspiration. He held a mechanical engineering degree, a proud accomplishment that showcased his intellectual capabilities.

David was a loving husband to his spouse Suzannah Acosta, with whom he enjoyed square dancing and was married to for over 34 years. He was also a foster father to 12 boys, including Michael and Christopher, providing them with a caring and nurturing home.  They enjoyed watching movies together in their living room and the outdoor life in their mountain top home.

Survived by his brothers and sister, David was characterized by his ability to call things just like he saw things. He was a conservative individual who believed in speaking truthfully, and made a lasting impact on the lives of others. David's love for his cats and his passion for auto and airplane mechanics and repair were evident throughout his life.

An active churchgoer with his wife and foster children, David embodied his faith as a god-fearing faithful Christian. He believed in giving back to the community and was involved in various charitable endeavors.

David Allan Acosta will be remembered for his unique personality, his love for knowledge, having keen smarts, and his dedication to his loved ones. His presence will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
