Dan’s parents moved the family from Regina to Victoria B.C. when he was a young child, Dan grew up there and started his family there before moving his young family up to Dawson Creek Bc.
Dan was an advid hunter taking annual hunting trips river boat hunting in the fort nelson area. Deer Camp and Elk camp closer to home was a destination for Dan with many of his hunting friends. A cabin built by Dan and friends that welcomed other hunters in the area for a warm retreat. The guest book filled with thankful hunters Dan enjoyed Taxidermy and passed that ambition on to his Nephew Steven, teaching him the tricks of the trade. Dan enjoyed the mastermindness of Chess and played regular on line chess. Dan enjoyed camping and fishing
Dan had an unusual love of pepper. Like, would you like a meal with your pepper?
Dan enjoyed 50’s music. Artists like Janice Joplin, Roy Orbison and Elvis. It’s no wonder he fell in love with one of the stars of the wagon wheel round up a hot little number named Penny Potts.
Dan was attacked by a grizzly bear during one of his hunting trips as evidenced by the large scar on his shoulder…. This was the story he told to all his grandkids, neices, and nephews who all listened intently and were in awe of how their grandfather/uncle tackled back and won the fight. Of course the scar really came from surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder due to a macho man fist fight
Spending time with family and friends. His door was always open and he welcomed company at any time! He was a friend to all and would give his shirt off his back for a stranger.
Australia was a place Dan always hoped to visit but did not. Dan enjoyed his home, in the summer sitting on his deck with morning coffee or an afternoon cocktail often times with drop in company.
Dan enjoyed watching sports, hockey, baseball, golf. He had competitive fun playing bocce ball with his son in law Joe. Where each of them thought they were the best
Dan was a plumber/pipefitter by trade, worked his way into foreman positions working many shutdowns and the most recent project prior to retirement was the Ft St John Airport.

Dan and Penny enjoyed their travel to the Big island of Hawaii with their daughter Vickie and her husband Terry. Venturing around the island and sipping pina coladas. A trip to Mexico with Dan’s sister Margie and her husband Steve, great times spent together in laughter and fun. The last big adventure was their drive into the states where they were snowbirds for a month or so.

Dan was very entrepreneurial, having started his own businesses at different stages of his life. Sage Mechanical in B.C., a Taxidermey business, Castaway boats, farming
Dan was always very proud of his children. And grandchildren. He also knew how lucky he was to have such a wonderful support wife in Penny.
Dan was rich with friends too many to mention them all !!!! So many great times with Neighbor’s, work friends and hunting friends!!!!
Daniel Harold McLean, known affectionately as "Dan the Man," passed away on October 30, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on December 14, 1946, in Regina, SK, Canada, Daniel spent much of his life in Victoria, B.C., where he grew up and started his family before eventually moving to Dawson Creek, B.C.
Dan was a devoted husband to Penny Potts, whom he married on September 9, 1967. Together, they shared 57 wonderful years filled with love and adventure. Dan cherished time spent with his family and friends, always welcoming visitors into his home for coffee or an afternoon cocktail. He was known for his generous spirit, often giving his shirt off his back to help others.
A skilled plumber and pipefitter by trade, Dan had a successful career, culminating in his work on the Ft. St. John Airport project. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start several businesses, including Sage Mechanical and a taxidermy venture.
Dan found joy in the great outdoors, particularly through his passion for hunting. He often took annual trips for riverboat hunting in Fort Nelson and enjoyed weekends at his beloved hunting cabin, where he hosted friends. His love for adventure was evident in his travels to Hawaii and Mexico with family, as well as his snowbird adventures in the United States.
A lover of 50s music, Dan enjoyed the sounds of Janis Joplin, Roy Orbison, and Elvis, and his lively stories—especially the legendary account of his encounter with a grizzly bear—captivated his grandchildren and nieces and nephews alike. Known for his competitive spirit, Dan engaged in spirited games of bocce ball with his son-in-law Joe and relished watching hockey, baseball, and golf.
Daniel is survived by his sister Margie and his children Shawn (Taryn), Victoria (Terry), and Angela (Joe), as well as his grandchildren: Alexandra, Nicholas, Mariah, Jazmin, Lizzie, DJ, Sonja, Tatum, Corbin, Tyler, and Nathan, and great-grandchildren Kohen, Rhett, Eberly, Desmond, Lena, Emily, Mya, and Ava.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Dorothy McLean, and his siblings, Toody, Heather, and Donny.
Dan's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and generous heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
