Clifford John "Butch" Alexander, son of the late Clifford Alexander and Lois (Smith) Alexander, lived from January 14, 1944, until his unexpected passing on October 6, 2024. Butch, as he was known to his friends, grew up in Calais, Maine, and graduated from Calais High School in 1962. After high school, Butch attended Southern Maine Vocational Institute and worked as a mechanic at a dealership in South Portland before returning to run the family business in Calais, which included a garage and wrecker/towing service.
Years later, Butch began teaching at Washington County Community College (formerly Washington County Vocational Technical Institute) as a heavy equipment instructor, a Class I driving instructor, and later a small engine repair instructor. After 25 years as a community college instructor, Butch retired, but he didn't remain idle for long. In his retirement, he worked at Johnson's Hardware in Calais, Maine, before eventually moving to Pensacola, FL. While in Pensacola, Butch loved volunteering at the Pensacola area Chief Petty Officer Association (PACPOA), worked on Wreaths Across America sites, did highway and beach cleanups with other local volunteers, and attended every car show he could.
Butch often talked about his love for traveling, particularly a trip to Monte Carlo, which he earned as a prize for selling the most Buicks within a specific time frame. He was proud of that achievement. In his free time, Butch loved reading crime dramas, murder mysteries, and detective stories particularly by the authors W.E.B. Griffin, James Patterson, David Baldacci, Clive Custer, and Lee Childs.
Butch is survived by his son, Dana Alexander, and his wife Missy of Baring, ME, his daughter Wendy Alexander of Calais, ME, his three stepdaughters: Jennifer Alexander of Melbourne, FL, Heather Mitchell and her husband Richard of Linneus, ME, and Michelle Mutispaugh and her husband Doug of Pensacola, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Samantha Alexander, Kyle Mahar, Morgan Mahar, Taylor Lounder, AJ Adams, Joshua Chambers, Nathan Chambers, Dickie Mitchell, Seth Youngman, Jacob Youngman, and Lathan Mutispaugh. Clifford is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
