Claudia was born on May 6, 1939, in Augusta Georgia, to the late Henry and Carol Brooks. She was raised in the segregated south where she witnessed first hand the mistreatment of African Americans during her early years. Her life began to change when her father Henry, secured a job as a sheet metal worker in Washington, D.C.
Claudia attended the Public school system in Washington, D.C., which was later named the Board Of Education of the District of Columbia. During this, the school's were transitioning from segregation to desegregation, by the time she entered the John Phillip Sousa Middle School in the 1950's. Claudia's class became the first group of Black Students to attend the school.
Claudia attended Spingarn High School the last segregated High School built in Washington, D.C. During her days there, she was a member of the Aquatic Team, which was limited to intramural activities and known as "Color teams" for girls.
After graduating from Spingarn High School, Claudia applied for a secured position with the United States Postal Service in Washington, D.C. During the late 1950's, only about 66% of the USPS workforce in the area were Afro American. While working as a facilities Clerk, Claudia met her first and only love , Clarence Huntley. Their romance blossomed quickly, and the two were married in April 1971. From this union came four beautiful children: Clarence Jr, ( CJ) Claudine, Carl and Caroline.
Claudia is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Carol; her beloved husband of 54 years Clarence; her sister, Ruth Ann, and three brothers, Brendon, Alonzo, and Gary.
She leaves to cherish her memory her four beloved children. Clarence Jr, (CJ) Claudine, Carl, Caroline. Six grandchildren: Marie, Kennedy, David, Thomas, Sheila, and Eric. Four great - grandchildren: Jaxson, Ishani, Ceanna and Robert.
Claudia is also survived by a host of necies and nephews, two special friends Debra and Mary, numerous cherished friends, and her devoted work family at the USPS.
