Obituary

Christopher C. Jefferson, lovingly known as Toots, ended his earthly journey on June 11, 2024, at the age of 80. He was born on January 10, 1944, in Jarrett, VA to the deceased Cleophus and Mabel Jefferson. He is preceded in death by his daughter Sherry, son Terry, grandson Justin, and brother Cephus Jefferson.

He was married to his high school sweetheart Ann Butts for over 61 years. To this union was born; Sherry, Terry and Rodney Jefferson.

One of his greatest joys in life was serving as a deacon at Trinity Baptist church. He enjoyed guiding and supporting his church community with the angel tree, prison, soup kitchen and media ministries. With integrity he helped manage the TBC Credit Union. He shared his love for music with others by actively serving on the TBC Male choir and later as a member of Richmond’s Celebration Male Chorus.

He had a compassionate heart and loved helping those in need. Christopher had the gift of dexterity, which he used to manicure lawns and build and fix things. He found solace in his garage, where he would tinker and create new uses for old tools.

Family was everything to Chris, and he cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He would often be found, babysitting, and later driving them to various extracurricular activities and sporting events. As they grew older he was never too busy to share some key words of wisdom or share his love for comedies or westerns like Gunsmoke.

Professionally, Christopher served as a firefighter, saving countless lives and being a hero to many. He was the first African American firefighter at Engine Co. 18 in Richmond Va. His bravery and selflessness were admired by his friends, family, and the community.

He and Ann shared a deep and lasting bond. Their love survived the test of time. She was his loving caregiver throughout his illness and never left his side.

He is survived by his wife Ann, his son Rodney (Karen) of Richmond, Grandaughters Brittany and Gabrielle. Sisters; Louise (Joe) emporia, Earlena , Fla, Brother; Reuben Va. Nephews Darin Bell(Ramona) and Brian (Cynthia) and Reuben Jr, Landon and Devon Jefferson ,and Niece Adrian Giles.
