Obituary

Cheryl Lee Oatis was born in California and raised in the close-knit community of Lanare, California. She was the cherished daughter of Roosevelt Oatis Sr. and Corrine Nelson, and the loving sister of Geraldine McMahon, Gloria Oatis, and Roosevelt Oatis Jr., who all preceded her in death. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Davis and Janetta Irvin.

Cheryl graduated from Riverdale High School in 1985 and later earned a degree in Computer Science from San Joaquin Valley College. Always determined to continue learning and growing, she was most recently a student at Fresno City College, where she pursued medical coding. Throughout her life, Cheryl worked as a caregiver, dedicating herself to helping others in need.

Helping others was not just something Cheryl did, it was who she was. She consistently went out of her way for people, whether that meant driving long distances to take someone to an appointment, giving money to those in need, or simply making sure others had groceries and essentials. Her generosity and compassion left a lasting impact on the lives of countless friends, family members, and neighbors.

She was the proud and loving mother of three children: Aledria Oatis, Brooklynn Oatis, and Jaylynn Oatis. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews: Hezekiah Irvin, Isaac Irvin, Katrina McMahon, Michelle McMahon, Latoya Dortch, Kasuelle Davis, Cassindra Oatis, Eric Oatis, and Rozzell Oatis, all of whom will deeply miss her. Cheryl will also be dearly missed by many in her community, including her longtime friend, Roberto Vega.

On July 30, 2023, Cheryl was baptized and gave her life to Christ, a moment that brought her deep peace and fulfillment. Her faith, combined with her lively spirit, was a light that shined brightly on everyone around her.

Cheryl loved the simple joys of life. She found peace in fishing, excitement in cheering for her beloved San Francisco 49ers, and great joy in caring for her dog, Lucy, whom she lovingly woke up each morning to prepare full-course breakfasts for.

She had a vibrant personality and was always ready to laugh, joke, and lift the spirits of those around her. She was known as funny, sweet, caring, and compassionate qualities that made her unforgettable.

She will be remembered most for her joyous personality, her selflessness, and especially her jokes that brought laughter to everyone around her. Cheryl lived a life of love, laughter, and giving, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
